Phakic intraocular lenses offer patients a permanent vision correction solution to address common visual difficulties, such as nearsightedness. Phakic intraocular lenses look much like common contact lenses, but are implanted inside the eye for a permanent visions correction solution. Phakic refers to an eye with its natural lens; phakic intraocular lenses are implanted without the removal of this lens. The Visian ICL® intraocular lens is provided at our North Oaks office serving the Minneapolis area.
Phakic intraocular lenses are FDA approved to correct the refractive errors associated with nearsightedness. These errors affect the eye's focusing power and can have an impact not only on an individual's sight, but also their quality of life. If you are seeking to permanently reduce your dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses, Vision ICL® intraocular lenses may be for you. At our North Oaks practice serving the Minneapolis area, Dr. Daniel Conrad is an expert in the surgical implementation of intraocular lenses. We are proud to help individuals permanently address visual difficulties through this state-of-the-art procedure.
Intraocular lenses can also serve as an alternative to LASIK vision correction. Both procedures alter the way the eye reflects light to help provide proper focusing abilities.
Intraocular lenses help individuals improve their vision in much the same way as eyeglasses or contact lenses; by changing the way the eye reflects light to properly focus images on the retina. Once implanted, the Visian ICL® can help correct for common biological defects that cause nearsightedness. Intraocular lenses are designed to provide a permanent vision correct solution and provide the convenience of reduced dependence on eyeglasses and contact lenses.
The placement of a Visian ICL® intraocular lens at our North Oaks practice serving the Minneapolis area involves the placement of the lens through a microincision made in the eye. The lens is folded and placed in the small incision, where it unfolds to its full width. No sutures are required and the procedure typically takes less than 10 minutes. Because the lens is placed behind the iris, it is not visible. While, like any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with the placement of intraocular lenses, this FDA approved procedure has been found to provide a safe and effective vision correction solution.
