Laser Eye Surgery for Shoreview, White Bear Lake, and Blaine, Minnesota

Advances in ophthalmology have continually improved the quality of the services available to patients with eye issues. At Acclaro Eye Care, we are dedicated to taking advantage of these advances, assimilating the latest technologies and techniques into our practice so as to make our patients' eyes as healthy and sharp as possible. One of the most fertile areas for technological advancement in ophthalmology has been the use of lasers. As a result, the advanced laser eye surgery procedures offered at our White Bear Lake, Shoreview, and Blaine, Minnesota-area practice can make your eyesight clearer than you ever would have imagined.

LASIK

Easily the best-known of all laser eye surgery procedures these days, LASIK takes advantage of the speed and precision of modern medical lasers to repair eyesight with minimal discomfort. The results are usually permanent, side effects are rare, and recovery is quick. No wonder LASIK has become one of the most popular eyesight-enhancing treatments there is!

Custom LASIK

As effective as traditional LASIK has been, recent improvements have made laser eye surgery even more safe and effective for some patients. The custom LASIK procedure uses advanced eye-mapping technology to create a detailed map of every minute aberration in the patient's cornea. This map is then used by the eye-shaping laser as it makes tiny changes to render the cornea perfectly smooth.

IntraLase® LASIK

Traditional LASIK involves the use of a microkeratome, which is a machine that employs a blade to cut small flap in the patient's cornea before the laser does its work. While that approach typically works fine, IntraLase® LASIK offers even greater safety and precision. The IntraLase® system uses a laser instead of a physical blade to create a nearly perfect flap of tissue that serves as an ideal base for reshaping in laser eye surgery.

LASEK

Like IntraLase®, LASEK is a variation on the traditional LASIK that employs a different method of flap creation. Rather than a laser or a blade, LASEK uses an alcohol solution to separate the topmost layer of the cornea from its foundation. The resulting flap is thinner, allowing patients with certain eye characteristics that disqualify them from consideration for LASIK to enjoy the benefits of laser eye surgery nonetheless.

PRK

PRK is yet another variant of laser eye surgery that we offer at Acclaro Eye Care to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy crystal-clear vision. Skipping the creation of a corneal flap altogether, the PRK procedure corrects vision problems just as effectively as LASIK does and works for patients whose corneas may not be able to handle the more common procedure.

Monovision

While laser eye surgery is very effective at correcting refractive errors – flaws in the structure of the eye that cause it focus light either in front of or behind the retina instead of directly on it – it cannot address the root causes of presbyopia, the age-related degradation of vision that results from the stiffening of the natural lens. Stiff lenses cannot facilitate viewing things up close as well as flexible ones can. Monovision treatment is a means working around the problem, using lasers to adjust one eye for near vision and another for far.
