Refractive Lens Exchange, sometimes referred to as RLE, is removing the natural lens to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.
“Only two parts of the eye focus light – the cornea and the lens. We can reshape the cornea with a laser with LASIK or LASEK to change the need for glasses. Or, we can remove the lens and replace it with a new intraocular lens (IOL) implant to do the same thing. An IOL, of the right power, can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. New accommodative and multifocal IOLs can also compensate for presbyopia, which
leads to good uncorrected distance, intermediate and near vision. The procedure takes only about ten minutes to complete.”
